Neckartal crossing

A number of pot bearings were replaced at the Neckartal crossing on the A6 motorway near Heilbronn at the request of the Stuttgart Regional Council.

The particular challenge lay in the positioning of the supports on a narrow protrusion of land in the river Neckar. The steel superstructure, which weighed approximately 5,000 tonnes, was raised on to a steel trellis construction that was specially created for the project. The A6 motorway was completely closed at night to permit the trouble-free replacement of the bearings. Each of the pot bearings weighed approximately five tonnes.
